Tai Chi Form - Tai Yi You Long (Swimming Dragon)
A rare Chinese Internal Arts system and longevity training method which contains characteristics of Qi Gong (energy breath work), Taoist Yoga and TaiJi Quan. It originated in the WuDang mountain region of China. It is a fairly advanced Qigong and Taichi system in the Taoist traditions of health maintenance, spiritual cultivation and life preservation.
Tai Yi was named after Tai Yi Zhen Ren (a Taoist primordial ancestor) in memory of his godly spirit of punishing evil and promoting good. Tai Yi was also used as a synonym for Tai Ji (Tai Chi) in ancient times.
The forms in this system are done continuously and smoothly like clouds floating and water flowing. Swimming Dragon training emulates the movements of the Water Dragon - slow, smooth, continuous, and twisting, stretching and coiling. The form stretches and strengthens all the joints, tendons and ligaments of the body, massages the organs, and stimulates blood and Qi circulation.
It is also a moving meditation form, focusing and calming the mind. As a longevity training method it reverses the effects of aging by turning weakness, stiffness and low energy into strength, suppleness and vitality. With persistent practice, it will naturally improve flexibility, coordination, and balance.

You will learn simple fundamental exercises and movement patterns that teach beginners how to move in the Tai Chi Way.
These exercises help to connect the Body and Mind and develop a relaxed, calm and energized state. Like a moving meditation that also brings good health.
The class starts with exercises to warm up and loosen the whole body.
Standing postures with slow gentle movements are used to calm the mind and create a deep state of physical and mental relaxation and increase the flow of energy.
Tai Chi movement drills support students to learn the fundamental techniques essential to good practice. We then apply these to learning the Tai Chi Form. The long Form is broken down into smaller sections and each posture is described in detail. In time the movements become like flowing water. With more practice, students are taught how to include the powerful and explosive movements into the Form.

ADVANCED CLASS
This advanced class takes place on the same evening but at an earlier time. Here we practice further aspects of Tai Chi such as the Pao Chui Cannon Pounding Form. The emphasis is on fast and explosive Fajin movements that help teach and improve the self-defence/combat elements of Tai Chi.
We also do Tui Shou or Pushing Hands partner exercises and various Self Defence Applications.
Weapons Forms are sometimes included.
Students of this class must attend the 7pm class for some time before trying this class.
ZHANG SANFENG - WUDANG INTERNAL SYSTEM
MONDAY EVENINGS
The original Zhang Sanfeng Wudang system is working at the highest level of internal martial arts practice.
The emphasis in this class is the original Wudang Internal system created by Zhang Sanfeng. It is the origin of all other internal styles & contains the highest levels of self-defense & healing.
This class teaches the main solo Forms of the system plus the training drills for fighting applications which combine solo forms and working with partners.
Weapons Forms and their self-defense training applications include knives and sticks as well as the more traditional weapons such as swords and spears.
This is a private class - access requires attendance in any of my other classes. If you would like to try this class, please ask me about it.
