Taijiquan started out as a high level Chinese Martial Art (Kung Fu).
Over the years it became more popular for its health properties.
This class focuses on the Martial Art side of Taijiquan.
In class you will be learning various training drills using individual movements from the Taiji Form.
These movements are practiced in a repetitive way to increase your skill level, understand them in more depth and also their martial application.
A Taiji form called Pao Chui (Cannon Fist) will be taught.
This form is shorter than the main Taiji Form and helps develop the explosive movement quality of Taijiquan.
Pushing Hands (Tui Shou) is a two person exercise that helps develop the soft, circular movements in coordination with a training partner.
The Tai Chi classical weapons forms will also be introduced overtime.
Apart from the obvious Martial/fighting usage, they also serve as a valuable energy balancing practice.

Straight Sword: Balances the Water Element and is associated with the Kidneys
Wooden Staff: Balances the Wood Element and is associated with the Liver
Long Spear: Balances the Fire Element and is associated with the Heart
The main Tai Chi empty hand form is in general, associated with the Earth Element and therefore with the Stomach.
This means that all the 5 Elements - Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire are cultivated and balanced.
